"For a child has been born unto us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 9:6

Merry Christmas!

We attended Christmas Eve Mass where both the boys served which is my absolute favorite Mass for them to serve together.

After Mass we rushed home, to open a couple of presents, set out cookies and carrots and get the kids in bed before Santa came.

And man did he come!

Now off to finish packing and enjoying the day before we leave early for New Mexico.

See ya in 2018!

christmas celebration numero uno

Saturday, December 23, 2017

We are very lucky to have so much extended family that lives nearby. My kids think of my aunts and uncles as their own and it's so nice. This also means that there are quite a few Christmas celebrations that we have to get in around the big day. Last year we celebrated Christmas with everyone on Christmas Day. While that was lots of fun this year I kind of just wanted to keep Christmas Day low key and with just our family of 5. Also being that we are leaving the day after for vaca I wanted to really enjoy this time with the kids and not entertaining or cleaning up. Soooo Friday evening we headed over to my brother's new house to celebrate our first Christmas celebration with a few of my aunts, uncles and their families.

The kids loved helping Baby Avery open his presents. He was the center of attention because he is SO adorable!

The evening was great and it was so nice seeing everyone. Thanks Elliot and Maribel for hosting 😊

hop on the holiday express..

We are just chugging along with all our holiday celebrations. Yesterday was bowling with Santa.

Amelia loved bowling with Santa...she even let him bowl once for her.

Santa was a very good bowler 😉 It was a fun morning activity and once again I beat all my kids in bowling. I just can't help myself!!!!

After bowling we headed to a somewhat local outdoor mall, which was a terrible idea. There were only about 5 million people there and because I had to go to get Cameron's present I was kind of kicking myself for waiting so long. The kids did get to do a free coding class at the Apple store which all 3 were happy about so it wasn't a total loss. After the shopping madness we were off to Amelia's dance party.

She looked so pretty in her new red dance outfit.

Always the supportive big brother

This time...unlike her Halloween dance she actually danced! Oh man, she is adorable and I just love watching her dance. I hope this is something she sticks with for a long time.

Today we are off to the grocery store (yes I'm a glutton for punishment) then home to start packing for our big trip! Then later this afternoon off to my brother's house for our first Christmas celebration.

Only 3 days left!

School is out!

Tuesday was the boys last day which means it was Asher's last year of wearing pj's to school.

And Wednesday was Amelia's last day.

She has been waiting for pajama day I would say since almost the first day of school. She just loves this tradition.

While she was in school the boys and I went to a new to us theater in our area to see The Greatest Showman.

We were a little excited about the reclining chairs 😉

The movie was so great. All three of us loved it. The music was beautiful and we've been listening to it over and over thanks to Apple Music.

I have a few fun things planned for Thursday and then we start our family Christmas celebrations Friday. Before we know it, it will be Christmas Day and then we leave the next day for New Mexico.

We Kirchoff's never slow down...

saturday stories

Saturday was the last day of bowling for Aiden this Fall Season. Going in we thought his team got 3rd place but once we got there we were shocked that they had come ahead and won first!

This means out of 3 season of bowling his team has one first every time. That's crazy!

It was a fun morning...Asher and Amelia bowled with Aiden's team and they turned out the lights and had dark bowl which the kids love! All the pins are neon colors and dancing along to Christmas music. Plus they gave out free ice cream sundaes and game cards. The morning couldn't have been any more fun for these Kirchoff kids.

Saturday evening was Mom's Night Out for my group of ladies. Every year we draw names and buy each other gifts and this year we decided to be fancy and made reservations at a local restaurant. I had been looking forward to this night for weeks! Good food and good friends...can't beat that 😊

And to top it all off I am in love with the present I got!

Fits my family perfectly 😍

"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self control."
Galatians 5: 22-23

Sunday was Gaudete Sunday and while I had plans for everyone to wear one wore pink 😉 One of the things that I love about our church is that it's pretty modern. As we walked in I noticed no one was really wearing rose or pink colored clothes so that eased my perfectionist heart.

After Mass we ran a few errands, grabbed lunch and then went to see The Last Jedi.

too much sugar for Asher

Man was this movie good! Kind of slow at first but towards the middle end I didn't want it to stop. Might be my favorite Star Wars movie.

my least favorite tradition

I might be the Grinch of all Grinch mothers but I REALLY dislike making gingerbread houses. Every year I say it's our last year and every year the kids beg me to do it. Last year we built them on the Feast of Saint Barbara (Dec 4) and even though it was a coincidence I loved the fact that we were building with a purpose. So this year not only did we build them to recognize Saint Barbara but I wised up even more and invited my mother in law over to help the kids. She and I were both happy about that 😊 I got to sit back and watch and she helped them with all the grunt work and everyone enjoyed themselves.

In our attempt to live liturgically last year, the thing that was the hardest for our family was being able to recognize the saint on their actual feast day. Our weeks are pretty busy and taking time to do a craft in the middle of the week with sports practice and tests and homework was just too hard. Then in my mind I just gave up. Then it hit really doesn't have to be on the exact day...maybe just a day in the week. Or the following week. So even though these houses were not on Saint Barbara's actual feast day, they were done the weekend after and you know what...that alone was life changing. Yesterday was the Feast of our Lady of Guadalupe but we had gymnastics after school so we recognized that feast day Monday when we were all home and had dinner together. Again...the kids didn't know any difference and my life was made a little less stressful.

One Feast day we did celebrate on the actual day was St. Nicholas.

This was the first year we celebrated St. Nicholas and the kids were SO excited. St. Nicholas brought chocolate gold coins and each of them a Shining Light archangel. Amelia was so excited about her St. Gabriel she has been carrying it with her everywhere she goes. I think this might just be a tradition we continue.

santa 2017

Tuesday, December 12, 2017

Oh how I love a good Santa picture 😊 This year instead of the usual trip to the mall to see Santa we opted for a Pancake Breakfast that Amelia's preschool hosts. I'm glad we did because the whole morning was lots of fun, plus it's a great fundraiser for the school.

After all that fun, we headed out to the country to a fruit farm where they had all sorts of Christmas fun. The main reason I wanted to go was to see a real reindeer. I'm pretty sure I never have and I know my kids haven't so I figured it would be a fun experience.

It was really neat but the poor reindeer had knocked off one of his antlers the night before which really freaked Amelia out. She kept saying "where's his other horn."

The farm was actually pretty cool and had fun outdoor activities like zip lines, rope swings, a maze and a bouncy thing.

Aiden loved chasing around the chickens trying to catch one and feeding the animals.

Asher and Amelia loved horseback riding.

It was such a fun afternoon and who knows...maybe a new tradition.
