a very grand opening

Tuesday, August 29, 2017

My family is in the grocery business and has been my entire life. My dad started off as a grocery stocker in a local chain of stores in college and then from there moved to an assistant manager. When I was a freshman in high school he saw an ad for a grocery store for sell in a small town about 45 min away from Austin. I can still remember driving out to see it wondering what crazy plan my parents were hatching. Well many MANY years later that crazy plan shows nothing but their success. 5 years after my Dad bought his store, 5 miles down the highway in another small town my Mom opened up a store for herself. Together they have owned and operated both stores for over 2 decades. Well...the torch has been passed along to my little brother.

He is now the owner of my mom's store and I couldn't be more proud of him! Last Saturday was his grand opening and the new name was revealed of what is now his store...Big B's Meat Market and Grocery {Big B has always been my dad's nickname}. We all came together in AWFUL weather to cheer him on.

It's crazy to think at my parent's ribbon cutting of this store back in 1998 he was only 7! Who would have ever thought he would be having his own ribbon cutting ceremony.

We love you Elliot and wish you nothing but success!

"Nothing is so strong as gentleness, nothing so gentle as real strength."
St. Francis de Sales

We braved the rains and wind Saturday evening and headed to Mass since the boys were alter serving. To my surprise Mass was packed! Our area of Texas is getting hit by the outer bands of Hurricane Harvey. We have had lots of rain and wind but thankfully are not suffering floods like our neighbors more south of us. Please pray for Texas and please pray for all the families who are dealing with this massive flooding.

the eclipse seen around the states

Tuesday, August 22, 2017

Unless you live under a rock, I'm sure you heard about an eclipse yesterday 😉 I totally dropped the ball and last Thursday was like "oh we need special glasses to see it," so I rushed out to find some only to find nothing. Oh well. Thankfully the boys got to watch it at school with glasses. I, on the other hand, had to take pictures on my iphone (with my eyes closed of course) and then hope I got a good one. I actually did surprisingly

Here in central Texas it wasn't THAT exciting or amazing. It was cool, but 2024 is where it's at for us. A total eclipse will be visible only about an hour away from our house so you better believe we will be making that drive.

After all the eclipse excitement, Milly and I went outside for an afternoon swim.

I am not quite sure why we don't do this everyday?!

Last week, I won't lie, was a little insane. I had no patience with the kids and getting on any kind of routine was not coming easy. By the end of the week things got better and I am hopeful for this week. Now that we don't get home until 5pm on normal afternoons, everything in the evening feels like a race. A race to get dinner done, race to get work done and race to get them to sleep all in a reasonable amount of time so Cameron and I can enjoy alone time together. Well, last week we were not successful so I am hopeful that this week we will be.

New weeks = new beginnings 😊

I found this on Pinterest and my goal is to implement it in order for some order around here 👊 How's that wording working for you

I'll keep you updated on how it works because I just know you will be on the edge of your seats 😉😂✌

Happy Tuesday!

"Without love, deeds, even the most brilliant, count as nothing."

St. Therese of Lisieux

Yesterday was a catch up day for us after Mass. Aiden was sick and missed Friday but was feeling better so we had school stuff to catch up on, Asher had homework to catch up on, Cam had honey do's to catch up on and I had grocery shopping, laundry and meal prep to catch up on. Saturday was our fun day as we hosted Asher's baseball team at our house for a beginning of the fall season pool party. Let me tell was the perfect day for a pool party being that it was 103 degrees. Holy hotness! I am so ready for fall and cooler weather. That's hoping we actually get cooler weather.

{7qts} our new normal

1. We are all settling into our school routine around here and it's going pretty good. I have to say, I completely forgot how much time I spend in my car during the school year. Our commute is about 30 minutes each way plus adding about 10 minutes in morning car line and then about 30 in afternoon car line, it's safe to say I practically live in my car. Then as soon as I get use to this routine little miss Milly will be starting preschool 3 days a week in September and that throws a whole new routine to get use to. I should throw some pillows and blankets in the car...and maybe a mini fridge...

2. The one good thing about waiting in car line forever is it's helping me fly through the books I'm reading 😉 I finished Reasons to Believe and liked it. It was good...not life changing. I flew through The Glass Castle and LOVED it! I think it's my new favorite book I've read this year. So good and I highly recommend. Now I'm on America's First Daughter and so far am loving it. I am all about reading anything during the American Revolution.

3. Milly is turning 5 in September and by this age both my boys were in a seat belt booster. She is so tiny that when I put her in one to try it out, it didn't look safe. I've been wanting to get her out of her convertible seat for lots of reasons and the main one being that it takes her FOREVER to get in and out of it. I mean you would think it's climbing Mt. Everest to get in that seat. Redonkulous {spell check does not like that word 😂}. So I've been on the hunt, reading tons of reviews and even going out and looking at seats. I was soooo close to ordering the Britax Pioneer seat but really didn't want to drop 2 Ben Franklin's on it and then I found this seat.
Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1 Harness Booster Convertible Car Seat, Kyte

It's perfect and meets all our needs. It's lightweight {we tried it in person}, plus it goes all the way from a 5 pt harness to a backless booster. JACKPOT! My favorite part...wait for was only $75 big ones! 🎆🎇🎆
*I just went to Amazon and noticed it went up to $99 overnight
Anyway, we are excited to get it next week and try it out!

4. Unfortunately school has left us with our first victim...Aiden is home sick with what I believe is strep. Big bummer. We will be hitting up the doctor later to confirm what I already pretty much know. Being that we have a big pool party tomorrow for Asher's baseball team, this isn't the best time in the world but what are you gonna do.

5. My to-do lists have been long and my motivation very low but one goal this week was to sit down and really tackle some of it. I only got a few things checked off {extremely low motivation friends} and the most important being planning our ski trip. We are going skiing in New Mexico the week after Christmas and staying through New Years and in the skiing/vacation world, that's a pretty busy time. I had my eye on a certain room for about a month and of course when I sat down to book it, it was no longer available. One of the main things we were wanting this trip was being able to walk to and from the slopes. That way if someone wanted a break but the other didn't we could just go back to the room. I called the resort and ended up finding a condo that I hadn't even looked at and it's perfect! I'm stoked. I cannot wait for this trip 😊 Now I just need to go through all our ski clothes and see what fits us and what we need to buy.

6. In my complete lack of motivation, I have however, been working out everyday with the barre 3 workout. I have a love/hate relationship with it but the fact that I am actually doing it and haven't made up an excuse not to is some major progress in my book. I also started dry brushing which is pretty interesting 😉 Pinterest has tons of pins all about how amazing dry brushing is so I figured I would give it a go. A week in and I am enjoying it but I will have to update on if I think it really works farther into the journey.

7. And lastly I am on the search for a new purse. I have a serious addiction with purses but considering it's really the only thing I buy for myself it can't be that bad...right?! I've narrowed it down to this one and this one. I like them both but am leaning a little more to the Michael Kors because I love the navy. In the first I was thinking the dark gray, which I also love. I'm going to give it another week and see which one speaks to me more. Or if one goes on sale with will always help the decision!

Happy Weekend!

"And at once he made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he sent the crowds away. After sending the crowds away he went up into the hills by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, while the boat, by now some furlongs from land, was hard pressed by rough waves, for there was a head-wind. In the fourth watch of the night he came towards them, walking on the sea, and when the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. 'It is a ghost,' they said, and cried out in fear. But at once Jesus called out to them, saying, 'Courage! It's me! Don't be afraid.' It was Peter who answered. 'Lord,' he said, 'if it is you, tell me to come to you across the water.' Jesus said, 'Come.' Then Peter got out of the boat and started walking towards Jesus across the water, but then noticing the wind, he took fright and began to sink. 'Lord,' he cried, 'save me!' Jesus put out his hand at once and held him. 'You have so little faith,' he said, 'why did you doubt?' And as they got into the boat the wind dropped. The men in the boat bowed down before him and said, 'Truly, you are the Son of God.'" Matthew 14:22-33
I absolutely love this might be one of my all time favorites and it's mostly because of Peter. I mean seriously, can't we all relate to him?! I know many times in my life I'm all "hey God I totally trust you please allow all my wishes and dreams to come true," Then when they start to come true I'm like hooooold on a sec. We all doubt at times and the good thing about it, it's okay. As long as we pick ourselves us and start to trust again.
We were chosen to carry up the gifts in Mass and man were my kids excited! I didn't exactly see what everyone was carrying until we made it to the alter and looked down and saw Milly was carrying the GIANT basket with the money offerings. I was all 😯 THEN the priest asked her to carrying it up the stairs and place in the front of the alter. Then I was all 😧😳 She completely surprised me and walked up there with this giant basket like it was no biggie. She was so proud of was the best!

1. We have survived the first week of school! Woo hoo 😊

We celebrated the first day with our framily at our annual ice cream date spot. It was fun hearing about their days. Aiden LOVES middle school. He is so excited to go to school and so excited when he comes home. I cannot tell you how happy this makes me! Asher loves 5th grade. Being the big kid in the building is right up his alley. We are all back in the swing of things as if summer never happened. It's so weird how that works. I'm up early again doing my devotionals and making breakfast and lunches and then during the day Milly and I chill. So far it's been great.

2. I had a few goals this year with the kids starting school. One was to get back into my morning Bible and journaling time. I pretty much completely slacked off this summer. Once the kids were awake, finding a moment to myself was near impossible. Another one is getting dressed in REAL clothes to take the kids to school. I know you are real jealous of how cool I am. Last year I took the kids to school almost everyday in my pj's. There were more then one occasion that I was on the verge of having to chose between walking my kids into school in my cat pj bottoms or just letting them miss the day 😂😂😂 It became a problem! So ridiculous yet so true. Soooooo this year I'm going to take an extra 5 minutes to put on something decent. So far so good. I'm also working out again which my thighs today are not too happy about.
I'm doing the barre 3 online workouts that I did last year. I love them for so many reasons but the main is how easy and convenient they are. Check it will thank me...your thighs and butt will hate me ✌

3. I haven't updated my reading progress but man I have been flying through some books
Our Own Country: LOVED LOVED! If you are a fan of historical fiction this is a good one.
The Snapper: Not great, VERY VERY Irish which at points almost made it difficult to read. I finished on the way to Denver and left on the plane for someone else.
Love the Home You Have: I enjoyed this book for the most part. Her writing is super easy to read and there were a few tips I really enjoyed. I think it's more for the person who really needs organization in their home...for that I recommend it.
At Home in the World: I LOVED this book! Even though my family and I are not traveling the world, I could really relate to her feelings on traveling with kids. The writing is so easy to follow and it really felt like a conversation. So far might be my favorite book I've read all year!
And I am currently reading {will finish today} Reasons to Believe. I'm enjoying it however it almost feels like I'm back in school reading a book for a test. I know there are many people who love Scott Hahn's writing but for me it's harder to read because it comes from such a converts point of view. I'm going to try a couple of his other books so no worries...I'm not giving up on him yet! After this one I'm moving on to The Glass Castle. I'm really looking forward to this one!

4. Yesterday Cameron surprised me by taking the fam out for dinner for our anniversary. We celebrated last weekend so I was kind of surprised we were celebrating again! Not sure why though, Cam always ALWAYS takes time to celebrate us and show me how special I am to him. We went to a local Mexican food restaurant that's by the river that runs through town. After dinner we went out and skipped rocks and enjoyed the nice evening.

It was great...much better then I could imagine for a Thursday evening.

5. I really need to get my behind in gear for planning our ski trip in December. We've decided to go to Angel Fire, NM and we also decided to drive after seeing how insanely expensive flights were. This will be our first big family road trip and I'm NERVOUS! I've checked out some places to stay and my goal is to have a place booked this weekend. It's so hard booking something site unseen but I've done it before so I just need to do it again. I am looking forward to seeing fireworks over the mountain on NYE again!

6. Along the lines of planning, September is a month of birthdays in this house. We've never done a big party for Milly {well except for her 1st} and this year she is all about a party. I remember when the boys turned 5 we did something big for them so she is having her first friend birthday party. Her and I started planning it this morning and we are both super excited. Here's a hint...
Image result for fancy nancy

Cam's birthday is the 13th and we usually just go out to dinner but this year I want to surprise him with something a little more fun so along with a 5th birthday party I'm working on a 38th 😉

7. I've started listening to Podcasts again on my long commute to the kids school everyday. I am fairly new to podcasts as in I just started listening to them in the winter/spring {can't remember exactly} but I love them. My 2 favorite shows right now are Fountains of Carrots and The Simple Show. Fountains of Carrots is my absolute FAV! I listen to every single one of their shows. I just love how smart, witty and Catholic they are. I'm new to The Simple Show but have listened to a few and so far love! If you have a podcast you like let me know!

15 years to be exact...

at 2:30 pm Texas time, a VERY young couple were saying "I do"

and the rest, my friends, is history 😊😍

1st day of school and back to school feast!

Wednesday, August 9, 2017

Today was the first day of school!

Here we come 5th and 6th grade!

The boys were really excited this morning. They were even so excited last night that neither could fall asleep. I ended up putting them together and both fell asleep immediately. I cannot wait to pick them up at 2 and see how their days were!

Per tradition, last night was our annual

Back to School Feast!

Our theme this year is...

"Pray as if everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on You."
Saint Augustine.

When I read this quote back in July I knew it was going to be perfect for the school year. It's a great motto for life 😊

As always I love to have a beautiful table...

and I order our stars...

These are my favorite that I've ever ordered. The theme is on the big star and then each yellow star is engraved with the kids name.

The kids also each got a little special gift...

Books, a medal with their saint they are named after...Michael, William and Mary, a notebook with our theme and then the boys each received MP3 players. Let's just say they were BEYOND excited 😉 We feasted on Schlotsky's because  it's their fav fast food place and after a day of cleaning and decorating Mama needed something easy. For dessert was their favorite...Root Beer Floats!

It was a fun evening for everyone. We talked about expectations of the coming year and the boys wrote down 3 goals in their new notebook for the year.

Let the school year begin!!!!

7QTs: end of summer, back to school and lots of ramblings

Friday, August 4, 2017

1. I have finally finished all the Colorado trip posts. Here they are...

Day 1 & 2
Day 3
Day 4
Day 5
Day 6, 7 & 8

2. I am so happy that I started planning our annual Back To School Feast before we left for Colorado. This year I am not completely ready for school to start but that doesn't mean I'm not going to plan an awesome dinner 😉 The stars I ordered with our school year motto arrived, the gifts have been ordered and most have arrived, the dinner has been planned and now all I do is wait for the big day. Last year we had the feast the evening before school started and this year I plan on continuing with that tradition...which would mean next Tuesday. This morning I spent time putting out all the back to school decorations around the house and the boys and I washed their backpacks and loaded them up. The mudroom has been cleaned and organized, all their uniforms are washed and ironed and new checklists have been made and hung in their rooms. We are officially ready for school!

3. On the same back to school note, my plan this year is still stay on top of things! It's so easy at the beginning of a new school year but I would realllllly like it to last longer. I bought this giant planner with the morning/afternoon/evening layout. So far I love it. I have August and September laid out and have also set goals for myself each month. Milly will be home with me all of August but once she is back in school in September there are a few personal things I hope to achieve. There's a little notes section where I plan of writing an inspirational quote every week to keep me on track. This week it's
"Have patience with all things, but, first of all with yourself."
~Saint Francis de Sales

4. Here are pics from our last couple of Kirchoff Sunday Best

We've also been trying to go to Mass at least once a week during the day and last week after Mass we stopped by the Faith Formation Office to sign up for Religious Education. Aiden will be in youth group this year which is pretty exciting (and crazy). I cannot wait for all the new friends and adventures he will have this year. Asher will be in his last year of RE and I will be teaching the Kindergarten class with Milly in tow. They cancelled the preschool class so I asked them if I could do kinder and just bring her along. Of course they agreed so this should be a fun year 😉

5. I've been working like a busy bee around our house doing a little "spring cleaning." Every year before school starts I get on this crazy cleaning/organizing kick. It's like I feel like everything has to be perfect before we start this new busy period in our life. Oh well, my house looks awesome so I guess there could be worse things. I'm thinking next week I'll do my 7QTs on all the house changes.

6. This summer was really really great. With Aiden starting middle school I really wanted this to be a great summer together. I put on my chill out pants {most days} and just tried to sit back and relax. We had days that were jammed packed with activities and we had days that we stayed in our pj's all day. We read together, watched movies, played games, did crafts and my favorite, I taught the kids how to clean. I cancelled my housekeeper for the summer and now my kids are experts at cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms. Overall we spent a lot of time together and I loved it. Staying in chill out mode is why, I think, that I'm not ready for summer to end. But alas it has to...

7. Yesterday at dinner I asked my kids what their favorite moment of summer was and they said...

Aiden "Going up Pikes Peak."
Asher "Going to the Rockies baseball game because it was my first time at that stadium, we almost saw a no hitter and I love baseball."
Milly "Playing with my brothers"

Enjoy my photo dump from the last couple of weeks 😊
