7QT: first week of summer

Saturday, June 3, 2017

1. Oh man was this first week of summer an adjustment or what?! It takes my kids a couple of weeks of getting use to being around each other All.THE.TIME! But we are doing pretty good and I keep reminding myself it will get better...and that I will be gone most of next week and hopefully by the time I get home they will be happily adjusted 😉

2. One thing that helped get the flow of summer going was tennis camp.

A couple of years ago the boys did this camp at the local high school and loved it. This year was no exception. It was so nice to get them out of the house in the morning and get some exercise. It really helped and honestly I don't think any of us would have survived without it!

3. No first week of summer is complete without a movie. Milly has been wanting to see the Smurfs movie since it came out in March. To our luck it was at the discount theater this week so we stopped by one HOT afternoon to watch it.

Surprisingly I liked it. I like when movies surprise me like that 😊 It was super cute and all about girl power which Milly just ate up!

4. I've been very busily prepping for our trip to Ireland...we leave in 4 days! We stopped by the outlet mall and checked out sales on winter clothes. I wanted to grab a few new sweaters and long sleeve shirts for the trip. Jcrew and Gap had all their winter clothes 70% off so I pretty much hit the jackpot! Now to start actually packing...

5. Along the same lines, I've been researching like a mad woman all the must sees in Ireland. Pinterest is my new best friend. The funny thing is the most popular thing to do in Ireland is eat and drink in pubs. Not going to be too hard for us 😉 Other then that I've narrowed our list to:
St. Patrick's Cathedral
Trinity College and the Book of Kells
Guinness Tour
St. Stephen's Green

I'm also hoping we can somehow drive to the Cliffs of Moher. These famous cliffs were the "Cliffs of Insanity" in the Princess Bride. I would love to see them!

6. Friday afternoon we met up with friends and went to a dinosaur park a little ways out of town. It wasn't too hot and the kids had a blast. It was a fun little day trip!

Milly and her poses are killin me!!!!!

7. I have to say our first week was a success. I gave the boys a summer learning enhancement workbook and they did their work everyday. We also stopped by the library to grab some good reading material for the summer. They each made a list of books they want to read for the summer and I'm really going to help them achieve this goal by constantly encouraging them to read. We also instilled a new "electronic/tv" policy for the summer.
No electronics/tv until:

beds are made, teeth are brushed, breakfast is ate and you are dressed
30 minutes of exercise
30 min of workbook
30 min of reading
chores are finished

Then we are maxing out at 3 hours a day with only doing an hour at a time. It might sound like a lot but honestly it's not when you consider the entire day. Now watching movies or sports as a family in the evening does not count towards this.Overall for our first week the boys did great! I wasn't sure what to expect because in the past they have had a lot of freedom in the summer.

Linking up for the first time with Kelly!
