5 things

Monday, February 22, 2016

It's Monday again. I actually LOVE Mondays! Everyone {except Sissy} is gone and I can really repair our home after the weekend ;) Here's 5 things going on...

1. Laundry
I'm thinking I have about 8 loads to get done today. Yesterday as the kids were picking up their rooms and laying out their clothes {a new Sunday tradition} Asher so kindly yelled down that he was on his last shirt and pair of shorts. So laundry it is today...

2. My Lenten Devotional
I am really really really enjoying my new devotional.
It's speaking right to my heart and really helping me focus on ways I need to change. So far it's opening my eyes to lots of things that are going on that I wasn't quite aware of. At church this Sunday they talked about the importance of prayer and I couldn't agree more. We always pray everyday but setting aside time for me to really talk to God is life changing.

3. My Fireplace
Over the weekend we completed our big fireplace project and I cannot wait to share it! Cameron is my partner in crime when it comes to projects and I am thankful he is a DIY'er like me ;) Be on the lookout for our living room reveal!

4. Gardening
This year I will plant my very first garden and I am so excited! Cameron built me these beautiful garden boxes last summer and this year I am really hoping they are overflowing with yummy veggies.
look to the far right
I have been all over Pinterest getting all the info I can for a successful garden. Just deciding what to plant alone is rather taxing. I want to plant what we will eat because that just makes sense.

5. Rome
And last but not least my mind is on Rome.

Here's how my Thursday went a few weeks ago
Me: Just sitting in the car waiting for Sissy's dance class to start when I see Cameron is calling me {which is weird because we never talk during the day unless their is a problem} "Hey Babe what's up"
Him: "Hey what are you doing April 7-13?"
Me: "Umm I'll have to check my calendar why?"
Him: "Want to go to Rome?"
Me: " Umm what???!!!!"
Him: "Yeah do you want to go to Rome?"
Me: "Um WHAT????!!!!! I'm confused!"
Him: "Yeah I won a trip from one of the companies I sell for and we are going April 7-13."
Insert freaking out scream

You can pretty much guess how the rest of the conversation went ;) So yup, we are going to a few weeks...and it's seriously almost all I can think about. This has been a dream of ours to go for years and the fact that it's coming true {and paid for} let's just say I am still in shock. More on this trip later...

Be on the lookout for 2 big room reveals this week! Last week and over the weekend Cam and I were working very hard to finish our living room and master bedroom. They are both GORGEOUS!!!! Just picking up a few more things today and they will be complete :)

amelia's baptism day

Wednesday, February 17, 2016

"As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit."

At our attempt in baby steps into Liturgical Living today we are celebrating Amelia's baptism day! If I am being completely honest I almost forgot it was today ;) But I didn't and to celebrate (very last minute) we made a stop at her favorite restaurant for dinner...

3 years ago today

I can still very vividly remember this day. We had all just recovered from an awful stomach bug. I was so worried that we would be sick for the baptism. But just in time we were all better :) Because of that, we didn't have a big party or anything. We went to mass, had her baptism and then went out to lunch together. It was perfect :)

Happy Baptism Day beautiful girl!

valentine's day 2016

Monday, February 15, 2016

This was our 16th Valentine's Day together. 16 years spending Valentine's with the same person is pretty special if you ask me. I can still remember our first one. We were in college and he made me dinner at his house. My present was a ladybug sprinkler that I had mentioned to him I thought was cute. It was simple yet perfect and I will always remember it.
Fast forward 16 years. A lot has changed, we have a few more little Valentine's in our home and the love...well it's bigger then I ever imagined it could be. Cameron surprised me with a night away in Austin with yummy food, a fun play and a room at a gorgeous/trendy hotel. It was so much fun and so needed for the both of us. Time away from the everyday, a chance to just be us.
He always makes me feel special. He always takes the time to show his love. For that I will be forever grateful and thankful :)

Happy Valentine's Day

{diy decor} our guest room

Saturday, February 13, 2016

This poor poor room has pretty much been a disaster since we moved in last April. I mean a SERIOUS NEEDS LOTS OF HELP disaster ;)
It's been my storage for anything I don't want to deal with {doesn't everyone have a space like that???}
When we moved in I had a vision of what I wanted but other rooms were calling for my attention so I just let this one go. Until this year of finally settling into Escondido.

Welcome to Our Guest Room
I am seriously so proud of how this room has turned out. It's absolutely gorgeous. I have dedicated this room to my quite prayer/devotional space.
This tray Cameron and I bought before we moved in at a furniture store because it looked so cool. We had planned to put it in the kitchen but after we moved in, it just looked to big in there. So in the closet it went waiting for the perfect space. Now it has a home and I just love it. I wanted to keep the top of the dresser simple so the tray, family picture and then the very cool flower {TJMaxx} was exactly the look I was wanting. I decided on the 2 square mirrors pretty much because I wanted the silver/chrome look in here to balance the picture on the other side of the wall and these were the only ones in that color at Target. Initially I was nervous that they would be so small but next to the tall plant they fit perfectly :)
I have had my eye on this bedding pretty much since we moved in waiting for it to go on sale at the right time. Finally it did and I just had to grab it!
{Bedding from Target}
The throw pillows were the pillows on the couch but I decided to move them in here because of how perfect they looked. I love the dimension they add to the bed.
The picture above the bed was an old ugly not really our style painting we bought when we first got married. It had a gold trim I painted white and then used this wallpaper I bought at Target to just cover over the top of the painting. I love how it turned out and now gives a modern feel without overpowering the space.

This chair. This chair was the center of my entire design idea for the room. This is the chair I rocked all my babies in at Windmill Cove. When we were moving Cam was like "let's sell it since we won't need it anymore." I will NEVER sell this chair. To many long night memories, too many snuggles, way to much love in one chair :) So we put the chair in storage waiting for the perfect time to bring it out. I knew that this room would be a perfect home for it and when I found the bedding at Target is when it all started coming together for me. The day Cameron went to get the chair I was so excited to see it again and sit in it! He pulled into the driveway, got out of the truck and had the weirdest look on his face. "I hope you're not going to be mad at me," was the first thing he said to me. "The chair flew out of the truck as I was driving and I think it's broken." I seriously almost cried. He pulled it out and I saw the tears on the arms, the back is a little wobbly and it was covered in black. "No big deal, I can work with this." And work with it I did. I spent about an hour cleaning it, trying to mend the tears and fix the back. It's still works great...just has a few more memories on it now ;)
The "Be Our Guest" picture is something else I knew I wanted to incorporate somehow. I already had the frame and mat so I scoured Etsy for the perfect print and found this one. I just love how great it looks...absolutely perfect!
These antique finds were from our daycation in Waco. I was already working on the room so when I saw them I knew they would work in here. $7 a piece y'all! Now that's good deal ;)

So there you have it! Our new and improved guest room :) I achieved all my January goals with the house and have started February. I can't wait to share what we have going on this month :)

our lenten journey

Thursday, February 11, 2016

Lent started yesterday with the arrival of Ash Wednesday.
I have to say when I looked at my calendar this year I felt it quickly sneaked up on us ;) Every year as the kids get older, I look for new ways to walk the lent journey. Ever since they were pretty young I force encourage them to give something up. Our whole house (no matter what age) also abstains from meat on Fridays during Lent and on Ash Wednesday. This year here are some new things we are incorporating into our Lenten Journey.

Lent Cards
I found these cards over at Team Whitaker and just fell in love with the idea. So I printed and laminated them and every morning the boys are drawing one out of a basket and that's their goal for the day. I had to laugh at a few of her cards like "Fasting from Showering" because for my boys that would not be hard, that would be a blessing. That one might not make it in the bowl ;)

This one is particularly for me. I stumbled upon this journal idea on Instagram and thought it would be helpful for me to stay prayerful during this time.
You can buy it here

I bought it and sent it off to Kinkos to be printed and binded (it's 81 pages so it was a better idea to have it printed then use all my ink and paper).
So far I love it and look forward to using it these next 40 (or so) days.

These things are just going to further help us grow stronger in our faith. We also each have personal goals to work on as well whether it be fasting from something, praying more or working on something we are struggling with in our life at the moment. My goal is for this Lent to more meaningful so at the end when we celebrate Christ's resurrection we are overjoyed and more full then ever before.

{diy decor} master bath redo

Friday, February 5, 2016

As I said before, one of my goals this year is to go through each room in the house and make it perfect. First stop was the master bathroom.
This room pretty much never had anything done to it when we moved in except throw a few rugs on the floor ;)
It was plain plain plain! And I was so tired of it especially since this is one of my favorite rooms in the house design wise. I just love the cabinets, marble counter tops and the tile and glass accent tile. The problem though, was I just couldn't figure out what I wanted to put in here. And then one day walking through Pier 1 it all came together :)

Master Bath Redo
I walked into Pier 1 one day on a whim and found this beautiful gray metal flower on clearance for $40!
I couldn't believe it! I just knew that it would fit in this space perfectly. After that, everything fell into place.
Flowers and bud vase from World Market

I knew that I wanted to keep the counters pretty clean but wanted something pretty on them. This is the bud vase I used on my Thanksgiving table and found the purple flowers at World Market as well. I LOVE purple and knew that I could get away with a little of it in this room over any other room in the house ;)

Hand towels from World Market
This shelf and candles were a set I picked on clearance at Target way before Christmas. It was a whopping $10! The "C" and "J" are from Michaels, frame World Market and "love like crazy" sign from TJMAxx.

Stems and vase use to grace my mantle but fit perfectly in this little corner of my bathtub. Both from Target
Basket is from Junky Monkey in Waco...a little antique picked up on my day trip to Waco with the kids.
I just love how this room came together. It's the perfect mix of modern meets old.
Square tile also picked up at Junky Monkey in Waco. When I bought it I knew I was going to incorporate it into the bathroom somehow.

Now this space is perfect and just what I always wanted it to look like. I am really glad that I waited for the perfect piece to bring this design together instead of rushing into something.

Happy FriYAY!
