It took me until I was a mom and in my late twenties early thirties to realize how important girlfriends are and how much we need them. I have a great group of girls I can turn to...some here in town, some farther away. Each one is special and each one knows how to make me feel better when I need it.

The funny thing is, all girls need girlfriends...even the littlest of girls.

Amelia is more then happy to play with her brothers and their friends most of the time. But she still needs girlfriends. That friendship is just a little different. When she gets together with her best friend "Maribel" they are seriously the cutest thing you have ever seen! I swear...these 2 could keep me entertained for hours watching them play together. It's just a sweeter type of play then when she plays with her brothers. The thing is, she really needs that {and it doesn't hurt that her best friend is one of my best friends daughters}.

I think when little girls don't have sisters it's more important then ever for them to have good girlfriends. I had a sister, therefore I never really had that longing for a good friend. I mean I lived with my friend. As I got older {don't worry my sister and I are very close} it became more clear to me why I needed more girlfriends. I needed more opinions, more point of views, different life experiences to learn about. My sister and I growing up had the same life experience. Though our lives have drastically changed as adults, we still have the same view of how life should be. I needed more and was lucky to have found that. Recently one of my best friends has been going through something and seeing all of us friends surrounding her with love and support has been very powerful to me. You don't have to be family to love someone. You don't have to be family to feel deeply for people. Friends can be family. Growing up I never would have believed this but now I believe almost more then anything else in my life.

"There is nothing on this earth more to be prized then true friendship."
~St. Thomas Aquinas

  1. I can't express how much our group of friends means to me. When I was pregnant with the twins and during their first year you guys rallied around me and made me a safety net that allowed me to admit my fears and get thru one of the hardest times of my life. I will be forever grateful for that. It doesn't hurt that you guys are some of the most beautiful people (inside and out) I've ever known. You all inspire me.
